Successful OpenSocial Hackathon hosted by Hyves and Google

To anyone browsing the list of launched partners, it's clear that OpenSocial is a truly global initiative. In Europe, there's a lot of activity in the OpenSocial developer community. Take for example the Netherlands. A few weeks ago, Hyves and Google jointly hosted the first OpenSocial hackathon in mainland Europe. Fifty developers from all over the Netherlands, and some from the UK and Germany, gathered for an afternoon of coding to create OpenSocial applications. The applications presented at the end of the sessions are a testament to the enthusiasm of the Netherlands' OpenSocial developer community, and hopefully these apps will find their way to Hyves and other social networks soon. The presentations included a virtual multiplayer game of Stratego, a social shopping gadget and a match-making gadget. Suffice to say we had a lot of fun in the process too!

Hyves' presentation is available below:

We look forward to the launch of OpenSocial (v0.7) at Hyves, increasing the reach of OpenSocial applications to another 7 million users.

Aw, man, you guys should have advertised this event more... it completely went under my radar, I would have loved to attend.
More of these events in Europe, please :)

We got a lot of positive feedback on this event, and we're definitely thinking of doing this again. We'll look into how we can communicate these events better (and start looking for a larger room as well, since the 50 attendees this time filled up the Google office completely)!
