Let's get this Partuza started!

Do you wish you could develop and test your OpenSocial gadgets on your own local development machine or server? Or are you thinking of becoming an OpenSocial container but need an example of how you can get started?

If your answer to either of these questions is "yes," you are in luck because Partuza was created to help with both of these problems.

Partuza, a sample social networking site that supports OpenSocial, is written in PHP and is available under the Apache open source license. It supports all the OpenSocial features that you need to be able to develop and test your gadgets in the comfort of your own private, speedy local network. Because it is open source, you can also look under the hood and see just how you can use PHP Shindig to add OpenSocial support to your site. Better yet, it is licensed under the open Apache license, so you can take the code and use it directly in your own social network site without any problems.

In case you were wondering, partuza is Spanish slang for party, similar to the American term "shindig." We like our names to have some social flavor and a good dose of fun!

To help you get up and running quickly, I've written a guide with step by step instructions and screenshots for how to setup the PHP version of Shindig and Partuza on your windows machine:

You can find the source code for Partuza and some basic instructions for the Unix/Linux minded people at the project page at
http://code.google.com/p/partuza and see a demo at http://www.partuza.nl/.

If you have any questions, want to mingle or contribute to either Shindig or Partuza, you can find us at the Shindig and Partuza mailing lists. We're looking forward to meeting you!

Especially for testing this is great! I've been using HappyHour, which is great too, but using the real thing is even better.
I'll have to check out if automated testing with Selenium will work well with this.

Well, yes, "partuza" is a "party", but its real meaning depends on the country of Latin America where you are living... :) ... ask any guy from Buenos Aires (Argentina) and they'll start laughing at the thought of using software called like that, since... well, um... "partuza" is the kind of party involving some kind of sexual behavior, which decency and common censorship rules don't allow me to explain here. But go ask your nearest argie what she / he thinks of such a name ;) I'm personally ROTFL right now :)))
